On Sunday 22 March, Prague hosted Vltava Day, an event that symbolically opened a new season on the river and drew thousands of visitors to the embankments and onto the boats. The full-day programme offered guided tours, free cruises, demonstrations by the rescue services and activities for families with children.
Prague Boats took part in the event aboard one of the most iconic landmarks of the Rašín embankment — the historic steamer Vyšehrad, which today serves as the floating Steamboat Museum. Visitors had the chance to walk through its decks and interiors and explore the exhibition dedicated to the history of steamboats in Prague, including a look at the original steam engine and many unique technical details of this 1938 cultural monument.
The Vyšehrad is permanently moored at the Rašín embankment and no longer sails, yet thanks to the new museum exhibition the story of the Vltava's steamboats lives on aboard her. Vltava Day showed how strong public interest in this piece of river history still is — the deck was full of visitors all day long, and you can revisit the atmosphere in our photo gallery.
