Dvořák Embankment

From Na Rejdišti Street to Curie Square at Čech Bridge runs Dvořák Embankment (Dvořákovo nábřeží). In this section it is one-way for cars, against the river's flow. From Čech Bridge on to Štefánik Bridge it is two-way.

It is a fairly important traffic artery, even though it lies away from the main tourist centre. The embankment borders the hospital and monastery complex Na Františku. Until the 19th century the section from today's Pařížská to Dušní Street was part of Saltpetre Street. The bank used to host bathhouses, timber yards and saltpetre production.

The embankment was built in 1904 and has borne the name Dvořák from the very start. In some periods, however, its entire eastern part was labelled Na Františku Street. Two important buildings stand on the embankment — the Faculty of Law of Charles University, built between 1928 and 1929 by architect Ladislav Machoň, and the Conservatory building.

You'll also find the mooring of our boats on Dvořák Embankment. On one of our longer cruises you can admire a number of Prague landmarks lining this embankment.
