Janáček Embankment (Janáčkovo nábřeží) is also a left-bank embankment that branches off Lidická Street at Palacký Bridge. In addition to the road alongside the houses, it includes the lower carriageway emerging from beneath the bridge, which is a continuation of Hořejší Embankment. Parallel to them, even closer to the river, runs Nábřežní Street, which passes under Jirásek Bridge.
This embankment crosses the level junction at the left bridgehead of Jirásek Bridge and continues past Petržilka Island and Children's Island all the way to Legion Bridge. The northern part of the embankment was called Ferdinand Embankment from the 1880s. At the start of the 20th century the southern part was also annexed to Ferdinand Embankment. Exactly when it was renamed to Janáček Embankment is not precisely known.
You can take in this embankment from the unusual angle of one of our boats or steamboats on one of our cruises. We particularly recommend one of the longer cruises, such as the Prague Grand Cruise, which also includes the experience of passing through the Smíchov Lock.
